Adding Memory (RAM)

Have you ever used AOL Instant Messenger, Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Microsoft Word all at once, causing your computer to move so slowly that you feel the urge to hurl it out the nearest window?

Random Access Memory (RAM) is the place in a computer where your operating system, programs, and data in current use are kept so they can be quickly reached by the computers processor. The data stored in RAM stays only as long as your computer is running. When you turn your computer off, RAM loses its data. Think of it as a kind of short-term memory for your computer.

Anyway, adding more RAM to your machine would allow you to run more tasks at once.

Adding Hard Drive Space

Your hard drive acts as your computer's long-term memory. The hard drive holds both old and new data and stays there until you remove it. Your hard disk has a limit and will not accept anymore files once it is full.

You will be interested in adding memory or hard drive space if you:

  • Download music and movies
  • Use your computer for gaming
  • Manage a lot of databases
  • Run multiple applications at once
  • Do not like deleting anything
